Jimmy Pritchard Wows Blues by the Beach Crowd

LONG BRANCH: Jimmy Pritchard and the band rode in to West End Park on Sunday Aug 4th with a hot program of jazz and blues that had the place jumping. A crowd of 300 or so attended the concert and was comprised of mostly locals but a few from Toms River, Freehold and other nearby towns, not to leave out the rest of Jersey and New York. His band consists of Jimmy  on the bass & voc along with Matt Daniels gtr, Kevin Lyons on sax and Rob Zinn on trumpet, and Tommy Meares (who played with Bon Jovi) on trombone. Kenny Robinson drums  and a great vocal  solo. The band competed in the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis in January ,representing the Jazz and Blues Foundation. The Foundation backs the summer music programs in Long Branch.

Delaware bassist Jimmy Pritchard‘s  life was changed when he was eleven, he saw BB King on the Sanford & Son TV show. Something inside of him clicked and the blues was imparted .Picking up the bass at fourteen, he would go on to record and tour with many national ( Sonny Rhodes, Lonnie Shields, Big Jack Johnson….) and regional (Roger Girke , Georgie Bonds , Mikey Jr……) blues artist. Inspired by greats Willie Kent and Big Mojo Elem he released two CD’s under his own name “Shopping for the Blues” and “Going Down 9” . Stepping up and taking the reines ,he experimented with different combo’s until settling on the current line up.

With origins in Jersey and the surrounding region,the Jimmy Pritchard Band features five professional musicians with decades of recording and performing experience among them. The band consist of Jimmy P bass & vocals, guitar virtuoso Matt Daniels , rock solid drummer Kenny Robinson ,and a smokin horn section, Rob Zinn trumpet and Kevin Lyons on sax.With a unique chemistry and vibe, they’ve created a razor’s edge sound that respects the tradition of the blues and pushes its contemporary boundaries.In their freshman year, their raucous high energy live performances have already electrified blues lovers and captured the hearts of the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation. The band will representing Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues in January at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
